Age and Vaccinations

The US will only allowdogs to be imported which are older than 3 months or 12 weeks. Dogs travelling to the US do not need rabies vaccinations, however if you are looking at taking your dog on a Domestic flight after you land in the United States most Airlines will insist your dog be rabies vaccinated. You will need to check with the Airline as to what their regulations are for Domestic Pet Travel. If you are not continuing on with a Domestic flight the Rabies Vaccination is optional. Some people choose to Vaccinate for rabies prior to departure as a precaution as rabies is present in the United States where as others prefer to wait and get it done there.Feel free to contact us and we will assist you where we can.

Certification and travel requirements

When you depart to America you need to ensure that you have a completed Vet and Owners declaration.On the day of departure the MPI vet will inspect your dog to ensure that he or she is fit for travel and tick, flea and worm free The Vet will certify your dog and check that the container is adequate for air travel.  The travel container needs to be appropriate for the dog’s size and breed.

Up to 3 Puppies under 6 months or age and less than 14kg each can travel in the same cage if they are from the same litter and up to 2 dogs up to 14kg each so long as they are of comparable size and used to cohabitation.

The Official MPI Vet will issue an AWEC (Animal Welfare Export Certificate) the document required by the US authorities

Bringing a dog to the USA

All imported pet dogs are subject to inspection at ports of entry into the US. They may be denied entry if they have signs of an infectious disease. If a dog appears to be ill, a further examination by a licensed veterinarian at the owner’s cost might be required by the port authority.
